Virginia Rose VanDam has a life long background in making Functional stoneware. From large fine art pieces to smaller functional items, she has a passion for creating fine art pottery that is a combination of usefulness and natural beauty. Having interest in the natural world and biology, you can really see the two passions come together in her art.
From the artist:
Wildlife conservation and rustic earthy living is a lifestyle. Many people in modern existence don't experience the outdoors so I like to bring a little bit of the stories of animals into the home. Mama Grizz looking for an opportunity in a bison herd, bucks and bulls posturing in their masculinity, the female of the species being a flirt and so on... Each piece is intentional art, made to have the viewer think about what else there is in the world, what the possibilities are for adventure, or what that adventure might look like, be it desert landscape or mountainous terrain. All my wares are useful in someway and are meant to be handled often, so don't be afraid to take my art with you in your Life's Adventure!
Yes, I offer both private, group art classes and workshops. Please contact me directly for more information and pricing options.
All of Molly Pitcher Pottery is Microwave, Dishwasher and Oven safe. The glaze used is all food safe and lead free so no worries about your favorite cup giving you lead poisoning!
Dishwasher:
Rinse and use whatever dishwasher soap you prefer.
Handwashing:
Just scrub the stoneware with whatever you use, sponge, brillow, or scotch bright lathered with any kind of dish soap. If you feel the need to use a sanitizer, Bleach, vinegar, Lysol or other cleaners are ok to use.
Unusual uses:
Mugs can go in the freezer to be used as a cold beer stein or for root beer floats, as long as you don't take it out of the freezer and pour hot liquid in it. That would cause a shock in temperature and it could break just like glass would.
You can use anything as an outside garden decoration as long as it can't hold water and freeze. Ice expands and could break the walls of the pot. If you live in a cold climate bring your stoneware items inside or drain potential water and store in a dry area.
The Do's:
You can use you stoneware in the oven to bake breads, casseroles or anything else you fancy.
You can use your stoneware to cook things or warm them in the microwave.
You can use it to steep coffee or tea, such as the Apothecary loose tea diffusers, or in a teapot. It is safe to pour hot water in a room temperature mug.
The Dont's:
Stoneware IS NOT safe to use as a stove top pan or kettle. The reason is the bottom will heat up and expand while the top lip will stay the same causing a crack.
Gravity and stoneware don't mix very well so don't drop your pot!
